Alux-Studio has the philosophy that art is meant to be seen and not hoarded. Our licensing policies are thus designed to balance the cost that goes into creating and sharing our images with the desire to provide inspiration through our images to the world. Images are available under Rights Managed license and for some of them under a Creative Common license as well. If you have any request on images or on licensing feel free to contact us at licensing@alux-studio.com, and we should manage to find a satisfying agreement for both parts.
License to Rights Managed
Commercial Use
regarding the use of images online or offline
is defined very broadly. The determination of commercial or non-commercial
use is based on the contextual use of the image. The determination is
not based on the tax-filing status of the entity using the image
nor on whether or not a financial transaction takes place.
A simple definition of Commercial Use
may be any situation in
which the use of an image contributes to the promotion or sale of
a product; related or unrelated; to the image in use.
Commercial use of the images is allowed only if expressly granted by Stephane D'Alu and will incur a licensing fee based fairly on the following criteria:
- media: print, internet, television, …
- distribution: number of copies printed, viewing audience size, exposure (regional, national, international), …
- duration use: month, year, …
- prominence of display: 1/4 page, 1/2 page, full page, spread, front cover, back cover, home page (online), interior page (online), …
Sample uses requiring license to Rights Managed
- A marketing campaign for a commercial entity
- A website about coffee that wants to use an image
- A fund-raising campaign for a not-for-profit entity
- An individual print for use in a private home
Creative Common licensing
Some (and not all) of the pictures (you will find the full list at the bottom of the page) are released under a Creative Common: Attribution, Non Commercial, No Derivative license. That means that those pictures can be shared (copy, distribute, transmit) as long as you provide proper credit, you do not use them for commercial purpose, and you do not modify them (no cropping, no upsizing, …).
Below are some additional information on the way to share them (metadata, resizing) and on the proper way to give credit:
- For online publishing:
- All metadata information must be present (no stripping of EXIF, IPTC, XMP, …)
- Downsizing using CSS or HTML is allowed.
- Downsizing by creating a new version of the image is allowed
as long as a link on an unresized
version is provided and mention of the resizing is done.
This is asked to ensure that the user/reader will always have access to the same picture quality. - The following credit must be given for each picture:
Stéphane D'Alu / Alux-Studio
.
This includes the embedded links that must allow indexing by search engines (ie: therelattribute can be modified, but the valuenofollowmust not be used). As a convenience you can copy-and-paste the following HTML code:<a rel="external" href="https://www.sdalu.com/">Stéphane D'Alu</a> / <a rel="external" href="https://www.alux.fr/">Alux-Studio</a>
